Innovate Motorsports Enables Individual Cylinder Tuning with the ST-12

Irvine, California, August 24, 2005- Innovate Motorsports today announced the release of the ST-12 also known as the SuperTune-12 system. The ST-12 is a complete data acquisition system for advanced engine tuning. The system is anchored by Innovate Motorsports’ award-winning digital wideband Air/Fuel Ratio technology, but also includes flexible sensors for RPM, MAP, Temperature, Duty Cycle, and analog inputs.

The ST-12 can power, manage, and consolidate data from up to 12 specialized LC-1 (Lambda Cable) wideband oxygen sensor controller cables. The specialized cables are functionally identical to the standard LC-1 cables, except they are 18 ft. long, terminated with a single ST-12 (DB-15) connector, and sleeved in a rugged thermal insulator.

The ST-12 is targeted at engine builders, tuners, racers, and engine-technology developers. At its simplest, the ST-12 can add wideband Air/Fuel measurement to existing dynos, allowing users to either feed the ST-12’s outputs into their dyno, or to feed the dyno’s outputs into the ST-12.

For RPM, the ST-12 includes options for direct tach input, inductive clamp, GMR sensor, or optical sensors. For Manifold Absolute Pressure, the ST-12 features a configurable 1-bar, or 3-bar pressure sensor for both normally-aspirated and forced-induction applications. Multiple temperature and duty-cycle channels round out the auxiliary-input capabilities of the ST-12.

Every ST-12 system includes the powerful LogWorks software for viewing, analyzing, comparing, and saving session data. With LogWorks, users can view and print everything from standard dyno chart to 3D color graphs with transparent overlays. LogWorks features 32 channels of data, sampled at 12 samples/second.

A key feature of LogWorks 2.0 is a full math engine for generating calculated traces. For example, LogWorks can calculate and graph horsepower, allowing direct mapping and comparison of HP vs. RPM vs. AFR. This enables users to gather performance data with a number of different fuel maps (or jetting changes, etc.), the use LogWorks to directly determine peak volumetric efficiency at any RPM or load. In other works, LogWorks 2.0 can tell you not only what your AFRs are, but also what they should be.

“Individual cylinder tuning is the next major step forward in high-performance engine tuning,â€? stated Patrick Thompson, Innovate Motorsports’ President. “NASCAR and F1 teams have been doing it for years. Now it’s within the reach of every team, builder, and tuner.â€?

“One goal with this system was to make it easy for operations with older dynos to be able to add the latest capabilities,â€? says Klaus Allmendinger, Innovate Motorsports’ VP of Engineering. “Just get torque into the ST-12, and now you’ve got a very powerful dyno with serious data acquisition and analysis tools. You can also compare track data with dyno data on the same system.â€?

Branding Begins with Publicity

Stephanie Hamiliton

Some companies believe a hefty advertising budget, is the only way to build a brand. But that is no longer the case in today’s society. Every day we are bombarded with commercial messages. What soap to buy, which laundry detergent smells the “freshestâ€?, who can sell your home the fastest and for the most money…

With so many messages coming at us in so many different mediums, the only way for a brand to stand out is through favorable publicity.

The best way to do this, is to be the first in a new category. For example, Saran Wrap, was the first plastic food wrap and Samuel Adams, was the first micro brewed beer. This approach is two fold, the news media wants to talk about the latest and greatest, and secondly, what others say about your product is far more powerful than what you can about yourself.

Today’s brands are built with powerful PR programs and maintained with advertising.

Bottom line: Strategy should be developed first from a publicity point of view.

Innovate Motorsports Sets New Standard with LogWorks 2.0

Irvine, California, August 9, 2005- Innovate Motorsports has released the breakthrough tuning software LogWorks 2.0. Building on the success of LogWorks Version 1, the newest version is equipped with 32 channels, torque and horsepower calculators, 3D Charts, and more.

Working with the award-winning LM-1 Digital Air/Fuel Ratio Meter, the LC-1, and all of Innovate’s Modular Tuning Components, LogWorks 2.0 sets a new standard for engine performance analysis, allowing users to view, analyze, compare, and save session data. In addition to expanded 2D charts and graphs, LogWorks 2.0 features 3D charts that can be rotated, panned and zoomed.

A key feature of LogWorks 2.0 is a full math engine for generating calculated traces. For example, LogWorks can calculate and graph horsepower, allowing direct mapping and comparison of HP vs. RPM vs. AFR. This enables users to gather performance data with a number of different fuel maps (or jetting changes, etc.), and then use LogWorks to directly determine peak efficiency at any RPM or load. In other works, LogWorks 2.0 can tell you not only what your AFRs are, but also what they should be.

Innovate has also recently begun shipping the LC-1 standalone wideband controller. With multiple LC-1’s, users can tune individual cylinders. For example, an engine that shows 13.1 AFR at the collector might have cylinders anywhere from 11.1 to 15.1. A rich cylinder (11.5 AFR) is wasting fuel, loosing horsepower, and fouling plugs, while a lean cylinder (15.5 AFR) is loosing horsepower, and dangerously close to damaging valves, pistons, and cylinders. In this example, after balancing the cylinders, an engine will gain torque, efficiency, and will almost certainly last longer, and all the while the average stays at 13.1 AFR.

The LogWorks 2.0 math engine also features user-definable math calculations, allowing users to create their own analysis of any variable or set of inter-related variables. Another benefit of the math engine is that it enables users to easily program automatic unit conversion.

Other key features include:

User-programmable gauges enable the creation of custom virtual dash boards.
Overlay any session on any second session for direct comparison and calculations.
Up to four 3D charts can be open simultaneously for additional comparison capabilities.
Variable column and row size settings (up to 128 each) to precisely match the configuration of any 3rd-party fuel mapping or laptop tuning tools.

“The goal with the development of this new software was to bring truly professional-level analysis tools to the enthusiasts,â€? stated Klaus Allmendinger, Innovate’s VP of Engineering. “We’ve done that with LogWorks 2.0.â€?

Innovate Show Controls Releases Version 1.2 of its BlueLite X1 Software

IRVINE, CA, August 4, 2005 – Innovate Show Controls (ISC) has released its latest version of the BlueLite X1’s downloadable software. Version 1.2 now supports up to 16 DMX universes (8192 channels) and includes full compatibility with LewLight’s Capture 3.0, one of the world’s premier CAD and visualization programs for lighting designers.

Existing BlueLite X1 users may add additional universes to their standard 4 universe (2048 channel) systems in 4 universe increments. As with the original X1, there are no restrictions on channel usage or fixture counts.

Version 1.2’s support for Capture 3.0 is via LewLight’s CITP protocol. This allows Capture to be run on the same Windows 2000/XP machine as the BlueLite X1, or on two separate machines connected via a LAN. In addition to basic DMX data exchange, version 1.2 supports more advanced CITP options. This allows features like Capture’s auto focus of moving fixtures to be reflected on the X1, and fixture selections on the X1 to be visually indicated on the Capture CAD and Live views.
