Aberdeen Group
and StreamingMedia.com have identified top
trends in the streaming media market. Their
findings are released in a new report, ?Uses
of Streaming and Digital Media,? which is
based on two surveys conducted in conjunction
with StreamingMedia.com?s end users.
According to the report, about half of all
streaming and digital media will be used for
such business applications as executive
communications, Webcasting, and distance
learning by the end of 2004. This is an
increase of roughly 20 percent over 2003. The
report finds that most business applications
with streaming or digital media components
have solid current use, with 25 percent to 35
percent of users regularly using rich media
for company meetings, distance learning,
external corporate announcements, and internal
executive communications. Projected adoption
over the next 12 months, however, brings total
potential usage up to or over 50 percent for
many major business applications.
More important, report findings contradict
suppliers? claims that sales force training is
the largest category of media use. Rather,
Aberdeen Group and StreamingMedia.com identify
Webcasting and Web conferencing as the lead
business applications for digital and
streaming media.
With more than 3,000 respondents, this report
claims to be the first statistically sound
benchmark on usage of business and personal
applications, length and frequency of media
usage, and media player preferences. Aberdeen
Group (www.aberdeen.com) is a leading IT
market analysis and consulting firm, and
StreamingMedia.com is an online destination
for professionals seeking industry news,
information, articles, directories, and
services about streaming media technologies. |
