WORKFLOW LEARNING DEBUTS
AT TRAINING FALL |
| |
|
|
|
OLN&R, with Jay Cross, Workflow Learning Institute-
If you don't understand the term "workflow
learning," you're not alone. Workflow learning is only
two years old, and customers have just started buying
real-time workflow-learning products. However, with
best practices just starting to emerge, early adopters
are making preparations to cross the chasm.
How big will workflow learning be? Sam Adkins's latest
report projects a $15 billion market for
next-generation learning products by 2008, $2.5
billion of which will derive from workflow learning.
Meanwhile, vendors from outside the learning industry
have appeared with products that eliminate the need
for traditional learning wares. In short, there's a
lot going on, forthcoming changes will impact most of
us, and most of what's going on isn't that easy to
figure out.
That's why the Workflow Learning Symposium at Training
Fall Conference and Expo in San Francisco is so
important. More than educational sessions, exhibits,
and demonstrations, the Symposium is the first
gathering of a new community of practice. "Come to the
Workflow Learning Symposium to help advance the
conversation," says Sam Adkins, one of the Symposium's
organizers. "That's what the Workflow Learning
Symposium is all about." |

Workflow Learning Symposium
Join us in San Francisco October 11-13 for Workflow
Learning's Coming Out Party. The Symposium is
co-located with Training magazine's Training Fall
Conference and Expo; one ticket buys entry to both
events.
The Workflow Learning Symposium kicks off with a
keynote presentation by Gloria Gery, Sam Adkins, and
Jay Cross. Gery will explore how technology finally
has caught up with her original vision for electronic
performance support (EPSS); Adkins will describe the
forces driving the inevitable adoption of workflow
learning; and Cross will explore the human side of
immersive, always-on work environments.
Chock-full of opportunities for networking,
educational sessions, panels of practitioners, vendor
presentations, demonstrations in the Workflow Learning
Pavilion and the latest research findings, the
Symposium is for chief learning officers, IT
executives, and learning technologists who want to get
a jump on this world-changing movement.

What is
Workflow Learning?
Why are Web Services important to learning?
Web Services foster the integration of enterprise
applications into unified real-time systems. This
enables enterprise vendors to redefine learning as a
core business process to be automated like any other.
They are incorporating learning technology into their
ebusiness, workforce management, and human resource
management product suites. We call this
individualized, small-chunk, immediate, work-driven,
relevant learning Workflow Learning?. Continued. Or

We founded the Workflow Institute to research and
promote the understanding and application of real-time
enterprise-level learning in industry and government

What is Workflow Learning? ASTD Answer Geek, from
Learning Circuits
What is Workflow Learning? by Jay Cross. "A buff
venture capitalist in a designer suit steps into my
elevator. Soon she asks, 'Workflow learning? What?s
that?' I reply: 'That?s something you won?t have to
ask five years from now...'" eLearn, May 2004.
Beneath the Tip of the Iceberg by Sam Adkins. Until
very recently, it has been prohibitively expensive and
impractical to develop learning technologies that map
to the affective domain. Now there's a broad category
of products known as Affective Computing and a
specific product category called Affective Learning
Technology. Both are being used to develop products
designed for the affective learning domain.
